Zen in Proposal Land

Getting better at proposals can seem like a daunting task, yeah? I know whereof you speak.

But here’s the thing with all daunts: Just start.

Zen says so, if I substitute “better” for “happier” and who would not?

Too busy to read it? Here’s the summary.

Start very small.
Do only one change at a time.
Be present and enjoy the activity (don’t focus on results).
Be grateful for every step you take.

Turns out Zen had more than one lesson to teach me.

Yes, we all want to accomplish something big, something earth-changing. And Zen is right — start small. The missing link (or bridge; you like bridges!) is communicating. Letting it be known. Sharing. Don’t hide your light under a bushel…. A small step taken alone AND KEPT ALONE, can have no impact except on the person doing it. Somehow, that commitment to make a “small change” has to be seen by others, so that they can try it too. Then many small changes can become a movement…

Jim T – An excellent point about visibility. I’ve seen you do that with respect to plasma donations (not that that’s necessarily a small thing) and it clearly applies to other ideas and activities.
